Merry Sustainable Christmas

Merry Sustainable Christmas!

In the spirit of the holidays, we’ve been trying our best to keep in mind a few basic eco-friendly practices to keep the holiday season under control and not completely offset the rest of the year’s goodness!

Oh, Christmas Tree! Forget the never-ending debate of Fake vs. Real and just consider these simple tips:

  1. If you’ve got a fake tree and it’s in good shape, keep using it.
  2. If you’re going for a real tree, make sure the Christmas tree you buy is grown locally & is FSC certified. Better yet – grow your own and keep it in a pot!

Wrapping paper can be so so wasteful, especially when it’s non-recyclable! A big fat brown kraft paper roll is cheap and cheerful. Make gifts pretty and decorate with foraged flora such as holly or spruce.

Waste not want not. It sounds simple, but it is so easy to buy far too much food when you’ve got a houseful to entertain for. Leftover recipes are a great way to combat food waste.

The 4 gift rule – something they want, something they need, something to wear, something to read – is a classic favourite guideline to avoid having an overload of stuff.

Homemade + Handmade. Christmas crackers, cookies, cakes, cards, wreaths. Creative projects can be meditative and great for your mental health, so long as you don’t put the pressure on yourself to take on too many tasks.

Shop local & ethical, or make your own gifts! There is much to be said about the meaningful impact of shopping small!

Remember – every little sustainable step you take makes a difference. Follow a few of these tips and you will be sleighin’ it.
