Put Your Cream On! Our Battle with Eczema

post it that says "put your cream on"

If I have said this phrase once, I have said it thousands of times. Specifically to my two children, who have battled severe eczema their entire lives.

But really. Two children, needing cream 2-3 times a day, for a decade….it works out to 20,000 times (taking into consideration toddler years when it was a constant thought).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

While our page is business focused and less personal, this topic is personal and goes to the heart of our product.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In that past, I was, to say the least, uninterested in topics of a medical nature. But nearly everything changes when you become a Mother. For about a year, every spare moment I as given, I devoured any medical journal I could get my hands on so long as it mentioned eczema. I was averaging 4-5 hours of very broken sleep a night for years caring for my kids itchy skin. I watched the Princess Diaries 2 at 2am more times than I can count (or care to). My children were on a similar sleeping schedule. Keeping them comfortable while fending off the next inevitable skin infection was the new normal but an impossible battle we were, and still often are, constantly losing. Sending them off to school with bleeding skin was heartbreaking.

“If it could work on their cracked, raw, sore skin….this was a balm I could confidently bring to market.”⠀⠀

My husband was travelling to and from West Africa at this time working with organic oil palm farms. He would come home with stories of Shea Butter and Red Palm oil, and how West Africans would slather these gorgeous oils and butters on their skin.

It was a no brainer to try this on the children’s skin. I had to create something. And thus, after many many attempts, POWER BALM was born. The result was my best effort to create a natural product which mimicked the consistency of their paraffin-based emollients. My kids were my test subjects. If it could work on their cracked, raw, sore skin then this was a balm I could confidently bring to market.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

POWER BALM is not a cure. There is no cure for eczema, only hope it will get better with time. But POWER BALM can soothe, protect, and help to repair skin.
